However, while the record labels try to cling on to their dying business model, yet another study shows that those who download music illegally are also the ones who spend more on it. A lot more, it turns out, £77 per year on music, compared with the £33 those who claim that they don't obtain music illegally spend. The study, commissioned by Demos, would indicate that the music business' apparently worst enemies are, in fact, its biggest fans. The survey questioned 1,000 people in the UK on their music habits and spending and found that only ten percent admitted they had downloaded music illegally. However, those ten percent spent more than double on music each year than those who only acquired it legally. In fact, as soon as it signed off on the Windows 7 code, the Redmond company moved forward with work on the first major upgrade for the Windows client, Service Pack 1. Wzor indicated that the software giant was planning to finalize the first Beta for Windows 7 SP1 by the end of this year, and to release the service pack to manufacturing in the summer of 2010 (via Neowin). According to Wzor, Microsoft has been hard at work on Windows 7 SP1 since the end of September 2009. Early adopters that have test-driven Windows 7 ahead of RTM might remember that the Redmond company shipped a few interim pre-final builds of Windows Vista’s successor that already contained Service Pack 1. To this day, Microsoft has offered little explanation as to why it integrated SP1 into Windows 7 before!

Now, uTorrent, the most popular BitTorrent client built by BitTorrent Inc., wants to meet ISPs halfway with the latest 2.0 version, still in beta, by enabling a form of throttling at the application level. The latest uTorrent comes with support for a new implementation of the BitTorrent protocol, created by the company behind uTorrent, called uTP, which was designed to lower bandwidth consumption, even if it means slowing down its own traffic. With the new protocol, the client will be able to detect chokes in the network and will bring down its own consumption, hopefully alleviating the problem. This should, in theory, if implemented on a large-enough scale, create huge savings for the ISPs. It is great for the network and po!
