The Nintendo DS has seen quite a few franchises flourish on it and give birth to a very successful and profitable series. An example of such a thing is Disney's Spectrobes franchise, which has seen a huge success with the first iteration when it was launched a few years ago.Realizing just what it had on its hands, the company tasked the Jupiter studio with creating a sequel to it. This new project was finalized with Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, which was released on October 7, 2008 in North America, while Japan received it on December 11, the same year, and Europeans on February 27, 2009.The game boasts some major improvements over the first title, while continuing the story of Rallen and Jeena, two space officers who have saved their native Nanairo system from the evil Krawls. As expected, most people weren't happy and the public outcry that followed prompted the company’s CEO Jeff Bezos to issue an apology for the incident, vouching that it wouldn't happen again. “This is an apology for the way we previously handled illegally sold copies of 1984 and other novels on Kindle. Our "solution" to the problem was stupid, thoughtless, and painfully out of line with our principles. It is wholly self-inflicted, and we deserve the criticism we've received.
