HTTP:: Effective Weight Loss Strategies
--------
Staying in the weight-loss game can be quite a tricky and, at times, downright difficult thing to do, if efficient strategies are not employed. However, this may be something that not all of us are aware of, which is why Men’s Health came up with the idea of gathering advice from the best experts on the ten most successful weight-loss strategies. As the popular magazine puts it, there are researchers whose main job is that of analyzing and studying weight-loss theories so that we, the regular folks, be able to focus entirely on the actual losing of the extra pounds. To accomplish anything in life, no matter what it is, one needs a good strategy, Men’s Health says, and a good, first choice might be that of constantly weighing yourself. This is far from the discouraging act it was once believed to be, several studies showing that it actually helps motivate people to lose more weight. Avoiding images of food is another great way of staying in shape, as a study shows th!
at seeing food triggers in the brain a “feed me” response. This means steering clear of ads on television or even cooking programs might help curb cravings, Men’s Health says. Praying is another successful, weight-loss strategy, the mag adds, even if we might fail to see a connection between the two at first. Yet, studies pr...

For quite some time, politicians have talked about videogames as a plague on society and championed schemes designed to limit their sales while blaming them for the ills of society. But even as their rhetoric seems to be toning down, a new generation of gaming politicians seems to be rising up and seeking positions of power. One of the first representatives of this generation could be Ray Tenorio, a Guam Senate member who is describing himself as being a hardcore World of Warcraft player. He plans to run for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Guam, with another Senator Baza Calvo, running for the position of Governor. He sent a letter to specialized site GamePolitics.com, announcing his intentions, making remarks about the Blizzard-made MMO. He said that “I hope everyone at GamePolitics.com are healthy and doing well. --------
There are so many self-help books out there that, were one to choose only a handful of the lot for some guidance and advice, one would have serious problems choosing. Judging from the message behind all of them, positive thinking is the key to success: a better social and professional position, more money, happiness, inner peace, love and everything else that is there to be desired. Performance Improvement Consultant Russell Bishop of the Huffington Post says in a new piece that the time has come to understand that positive thinking simply doesn’t work. Unless, of course, it does, he adds. The common-sense distinction most of us are not making when it comes to positive thinking is that reading books and self-help materials is not the same as learning from them and then acting accordingly. Most people, Bishop argues, are content to just stacking their shelves with this type of books, devouring them all and then going on about their life as if nothing happened in the mean!
while. They then declare that positive thinking doesn’t work â€" and they’re right in saying that, with the sole mention that they haven’t even tried it before pronouncing it a failure. Positive thinking must motivate us to change and get us acting towards it, Bishop says. “This is one of the most common personal traps...

Codemasters is announcing that it has launched an online tattoo parlor in order to promote the impending release of its newest rally game, DiRT 2. The Flash game can be accessed by anyone and allows players to create their own tattoo, selecting the models, coloring and the tool with which to apply it. Presumably, Codemasters will also work in a sort of contest, allowing the most creative of gamers to get their hands on a copy of the title. The overall look and feel of the tattoo website is set to mirror that the new DiRT is set to offer. The developers are trying to tie in rally racing, which is usually seen as a very technical and solitary sport, to urban culture, in order to attract a wider audience. Of course, there's already an outcry from some veterans related to the extreme-sport attitude, which seems to be creeping into the series with each new release.DiRT 2 is set to include a very interesting number of tracks. Players will be able to drift around the Los Angeles !

Microsoft informed that in certain scenarios, Windows 7 computers going into hibernation could present a stop error to the end user. In order to prevent this from happening, Windows 7 users that take advantage of the System Power State S4 option will need to adapt the hibernation file to the memory content loaded on the system. “When going into hibernate on a Windows 7-based computer, you may encounter the following error message: “STOP 0x000000A0 INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR (0x0000000B, 0x????????, 0x????????, 0x????????)”,” Microsoft informed. The Redmond-based company explained that the stop error is generated by the incongruity between the size of the hibernation file and the system memory contents loaded. In this regard, the software giant advises affected customers to boost the size of the hibernation file. “To increase the size of the hibernation file using the PowerCfg.exe utility, follow the steps below: 1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accesso!

A survey commissioned by US firm AppsFire on 1,200 iPhone owners shows that the average user has downloaded 65 apps from the iTunes App Store, for a final bill of $80. Free apps have accounted for 65% on the 1,200 devices, while the average price for paid apps has been around $1.56. AppsFire claims that it based its research on the analysis of what is installed on someone's iPhone/iPod touch by taking “a picture of what's exactly installed on each single iPhone.” “We used a sample of 1200 appsfire users (meaning that we know precisely what each user has) and took anonymously (we insist on the privacy respect), a picture of what's exactly installed on each single iPhone. We then aggregated this data to produce a unique overview about what can be found 'on average' in an iPhone,” the company’s blog post reads. Not one to miss out on an opportunity like this, comScore has decided, like others before it, it can provide people with some final and definitive answers and put everyone's worries to rest. It turns out that, while Twitter may not be that popular with the teens for now, that trend is shifting and the microblogging service is becoming increasingly popular with the younger users. “As the Twitter audience has mushroomed in recent months â€" to 21 million U.S. visitors in July 2009 (note: this number represents visitors to the Twitter.com website and does not include API or mobile Twitter usage) â€" the younger age groups are the ones flooding in the fastest,” the study's authors have found. “The share of visitors to Twitter under the age of 35 is increasing at a breakneck pace. There's a very old and somewhat decaying world, that of Drakan, which is depicted using the full-fledged possibilities of the PlayStation 2.There are, of course, immortal and very powerful Spirit Dragons held captive within it. There are the protagonists, which are a Dragon, called Arokh, and a very capable and female warrior, called Rynn. They need to save the aforementioned spiritua!

Espoo-based Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced last week a second, smaller version of its high-end Nokia N97 device, dubbed Nokia N97 mini, which is now listed on Vodafone UK's website. Compared to the original device, the N97 mini features a slimmer body and an improved home screen, though packing inside a 3.2-inch touch-enabled display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera, and 8GB of internal storage space. According to Vodafone's pre-registration page for the Nokia N97 mini, the launch date for the device has been set for October, which means that it shouldn't be too long before the company announces something officially. No details on the pricing of the device have been yet unveiled, but we'll probably learn that the carrier has it for free upon the signing of a contract agreement with a certain minimum monthly plan.Until more pieces of information on the phone's availability and pricing emerge, we should mention that the specs of Nokia N97 also sh!

Developer Markus Winter has released a new version of his startup mode tool for Mac OS X, 32- or 64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector. Version 1.3.3 adds info for MacBookPro5.4, an improved feedback window, and resolves an issue when no boot mode was set. The Mac OS X 32-64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector shows whether you have a 32-bit or a 64-bit processor; whether you have a 32-bit or a 64-bit EFI (firmware); whether the MacOS X Kernel is set to boot in 32-bit or in 64-bit mode; whether the Mac OS X Kernel is running in 32-bit or in 64-bit mode; and whether Apple officially supports booting a 64-bit Kernel on your Mac. Most importantly, you can select whether you want to start the Mac OS X Kernel in 32-bit or in 64-bit mode. In order to check your configuration, Mac OS X 10.6 32-64-Bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector requirements include an Intel-based Mac and OS X 10.4 Tiger or higher. The Jackson family is still shocked and outraged that certain media organizations have violated the no-fly zone over Forest Lawn and have aired footage of the funeral service held there last week for Michael Jackson. At the same time, it has emerged that Rev. Al Sharpton covered the entire event in posts on his Twitter page in an attempt to keep fans up-to-date with what was happening with the body of their idol, E! Online says. Strangely enough, although admittedly overwhelmed with the emotion of such a solemn event, the Reverend did not even wait to get home to Tweet about it. Instead, he did so right during the ceremony, as he was talking to the other guests (all close friends or family) and even preparing to take the stage to speak before Michael’s body was laid into the ground. Given that this was a no-camera event that aimed to be a very private matter only for the Jacksons and those that Michael considered friends, perhaps the Reverend’s gesture was a bit off l!

The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) has released a report regarding the situation of ATM crime in the European Union. According to the agency, the rate of such crimes increased by 149 percent in 2008 and resulted in over 485 million euros being lost to fraud during last year. The European ATM Security Team (EAST) of the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) estimates that, in 2008, there were 383,951 ATMs in Europe, which is 6% more than in 2007. The same source also estimates that 72% of these machines are located in the UK, Spain, Germany, France and Italy. As far as ATM crime goes, there were 12,278 such incidents reported in the European Union during last year. From these numbers, we can unscientifically conclude that roughly one in 31 ATMs installed across the Union was attacked in 2008, obviously without taking into account that one ATM could have been attacked multiple times. In its report (PDF), ENISA describes several types of attacks against!
ATMs, breaking them in three categories: ATM-skimming, computer and network attacks and physical attacks. From these, ATM-skimming is, by far, the most popular, accounting for around 94% of the recorded ATM crime incidents. The article in question was scathing, there’s no doubt about it, but, strangely enough, this time, Crowe decided to be all diplomatic about it. HTTP:: Apple to Release the iPhone in Israel on October 15
--------
Cupertino, California-based Apple is reportedly gearing up for the launch of its highly popular iPhone is Israel. According to the news, the company has approached the Antitrust Authority in order to make sure that all of its activities with the wireless carriers in the country are approved, and that there are no issues present ahead of the launch, which should be performed on October 15.Apple is set to launch its iPhone with all three wireless operators in the country, and wants to make sure that the Antitrust Authority does not rule its terms for marketing the device as being restraint of trade. Moreover, it seems that both Apple and the carriers in Israel want to make sure that the launch of the iPhone in the country is not delayed by any problems imposed by the Authority. However, Apple and the Antitrust Authority might not reach an understanding due to upcoming holidays, and there are great chances that the iPhone launch will not take place in time. In case all goes we!
ll, Apple's device should become available through all three of Israel's large wireless operators at the same time. As many of you might already know, usually the iPhone does not come to all carries in a country, but only to one or two operators at the most. Given the fact that the iPhone will come in Israel through all carriers, A...

HTTP:: Technical Specs for IMS Network Services Demoed
--------
Six of the world's largest players in the telecommunication area have recently announced the development of 'common technical specifications for value-added IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network services.' The said technical specifications have been also tested successfully and demonstrated by the six companies, including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC Corporation (NEC), Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and NTT DOCOMO, INC. The specs, the companies have announced, are meant to enable deployment of data-processing functions on IMS networks. In addition, the processing functions should enable them to come up with a series of application services, they have added. Both telecommunication operators and vendors should find it much easier to build value-added network functions through the use of the new specifications. Moreover, it seems that carriers that already went for IMS will be able to add these functions to their network and provide new services. Some examples of su!
ch services would include the possibility for a user to edit a picture on the network and share it or to convert a text message from a language to another before it has been delivered to the recipient. The six companies have stated that they plan on getting the new specifications adopted by the Rich Communication Suite (RC...

--------
We already know that Sony and Kojima Productions are preparing not one but two new Metal Gear Solid videogames for the future. One of them, Rising, should feature Raiden, in his new robot ninja incarnation which was also seen in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, while the other, titled Peace Walker, is set to show multiple clones of Big Boss as they try to help against an invasion of a tiny country.Rising is being created for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC, while Peace Walker is only being released on the PlayStation Portable. And according to Kojima, who talked to GamePro, there's a certain level of rivalry between the two teams. He said that “The core of it is, of course, the Rising team. So they're doing a lot of high-level stuff with great staffs. And that doesn't mean the guys who are making PSP are the [awful] staffs... it's not that. However, we have the core team who is doing real high-level experiments and alongside we have the PSP team, who ar!
e not really good friends right now, but in Kojima Productions and with Rising that is what's happening right now”.So, basically, the Rising team has the chance to create new technology and pitch novel ideas to Kojima while the Peace Walker team has to implement his vision of Big Boss and his adventures o...

Pingie: HTTP:: FDA Warns of High Content of Lead in Lipstick

HTTP:: FDA Warns of High Content of Lead in Lipstick
--------
Gone are the times when women would willingly use lead-laden cosmetic products just to get that pale, ghostly aspect that was so revered many years ago. Today, the industry is aiming for healthy products that do not impact the environment, or so major companies claim. A recent FDA investigation shows that many brands of lipstick now available on the market contain many times more than the allowed quantity of lead, as physorg can confirm. Apparently, the measure of testing lipstick for lead should have been long coming, as eco-nonprofit organizations like Campaign for Safe Cosmetics have been lobbying for it for years. In 2007, for instance, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found lead in 61 percent of the 33 lipsticks tested, in spite of the fact that the substance was not listed as an ingredient on any of them. As physorg puts it, the actual numbers are even higher than that. “The bad news: The FDA found lead at levels four times higher than even what Campaign for Safe!
Cosmetics Found! The really bad news: The FDA won’t name names â€" despite admitting that three specific manufacturers had the highest levels of lead in their lipsticks. And as of yet, the FDA has no standard for lead in lipstick â€" so toxic lipstick’s fair game.” the aforementioned publication says.

The use of social networking sites on mobile phones around the world seems to be on the rise, as Facebook Mobile has just announced that it has more than 65 million mobile users connecting to its site. The new milestone seems to have been reached quite fast, considering the fact that only eight months ago the site claimed a number of 20 million mobile users. What Facebook Mobile offers its users is the possibility to stay connected to their friends at all time, even when they are not in front of a desktop computer. Facebook seems to be more than proud of its achievement, and announced that it aimed at making its service available on some of the most recent mobile phones, as well as on the latest mobile operating systems launched on the market. There are two mobile websites available for handset users around the world, namely m.facebook.com and x.facebook.com. HTTP:: Crystal Renn Says Plus Size Models Are Back on the Catwalk
--------
At 23, Crystal Renn is a size 12 and, at the same time, the highest paid plus-size model of our times. She’s been featured on the cover of Vogue and other prestigious magazines, and has modeled for Jean-Paul Gaultier and Dolce & Gabbana. However, she’s the first to admit that it’s just recently and ever so slowly that the fashion industry has started taking heed of anyone bigger than a size 0. Renn has just launched her autobiography, the Guardian informs. She may seem a bit too young to be doing that, but, believe it or not, before she was the kind of model all regular women can look up to and relate, she too was stick thin. Discovered at 13 and immediately told she needed to lose weight, Renn lived on nothing but lettuce and Diet Coke for months, until she managed to become smaller than a size 0. She was about to take fashion by surprise when she came to the realization she was killing herself, she now recalls. She gained 32 kg and got back to good health â€!
" surprisingly enough, her success has been even more amazing since that moment. “When I started modeling in 2002 â€" and to a slightly lesser degree, today â€" the look of the moment was nearly skeletal. Starting in the early 1990s with the rise of Kate Moss and of heroin chic, the fashion industry...
