HTTP:: New HTC Leo Surfaces
--------
Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is rumored to be getting ready to come to the market with a new handset that should be included in the Windows Mobile lineup from the company, namely the HTC Leo. The existence of the new device seems to have been unveiled by the leaked Manila 2.5, or the TouchFLO 3D 2.5 UI that HTC designed to work with its Windows Mobile-based devices. As far as the rumor goes, it seems that there are some interesting specs that the new HTC Leo might come to the market with, including the WVGA screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as a flip form factor with an external QVGA screen. In addition, the phone might also sport a full QWERTY keyboard, though there are no specific details on it, and it should be rather interesting to see whether touch capabilities have been also included in the package. According to WMPoweruser, the rumored HTC Leo should prove to be a rather powerful device, which would point towards the inclusion of a Qualc!
omm Snapdragon processor. When it comes to the graphics capabilities of the device, the fact that there might be support for OpenGL 2.0 included in it also suggests a Snapdragon processor, it seems. The HTC Leo is supposedly a device that should come in line with some older handsets from the Taiwanese company, one of which would be the HTC Universa...

HTTP:: webOS 1 1 Might Drop on July 22
--------
Sunnyvale-based Palm is reportedly gearing up to come to the market with a new iteration of its webOS, namely with the 1.1 version, which should prove to be a rather major improvement over the already existing variant, webOS 1.04. According to the rumors, the upcoming software flavor is not that far in the future, and it should drop as soon as July 22, though nothing is certain at the moment. As previously reported, the upcoming software variant is expected to include a variety of security improvements, mainly aimed at turning the device into a better solution for business users. The Exchange Active Sync capabilities of the device should see some improvements, while other presumed changes should also include an IT-initiated remote wipe, as well as enhanced complexity in the PIN/password area, which would also sport an automatic wipe of the device in case a certain number of failed PIN attempts has been reached. For what it's worth, it seems that kwbunn from the Pre Centr!
al forums has discovered that the Exchange security and compatibility improvements can already be seen in the emulator in case one sets it up to communicate with Exchange servers. Given the fact that more stringent PIN requirements are enforced from the servers, the obvious conclusion would be that Palm is ramping up to release that new firmware versi...

HTTP:: New Android Update Unleashed
--------
Android mobile phone users that own a T-Mobile G1 device should already know that a new software update has been released for their mobile phones. The new firmware version is reportedly coming with “permissions fixes and other bug fixes,” which means that there might not be visible things included in the package. Moreover, Android Central states that the fixes are not meant to influence the regular use of the phone, but that they are something that developers will most certainly notice. This is supposedly one of the already announced updates that Google's Android operating system is expected to receive during the ongoing year. As already reported, the Android developing team plans to come to the market with a series of major updates for the platform during the ongoing year, while also intending to release a minor one in the meantime. One of the upcoming updates would be Android 2.0, also known as Donut, which is supposedly heading towards users sometime before the e!
nd of the summer. As the new minor update is expected to be rolled out until July 20, this might be the software that preps the Android devices for the near deployment of Donut, some voices over the Web have suggested. Those who will receive the new update should notice that the build number has moved from CRB43 to CRC1. At the same...

HTTP:: Better Virus Filtration in the Future Symbian Foundation Says
--------
The Symbian Foundation admitted recently that it needed to improve the process of testing the applications digitally signed for the Symbian-based mobile phones due to the fact that it had allowed a botnet-building Trojan to slip through the filtering process. The Trojan horse program that managed to pass the security test is called “Sexy Space,” and has been available for download up until this week. Symbian's Chief Security Technologist, Craig Heath, stated on Thursday that the Foundation's process that kept malicious applications off Symbian OS-based phones should be improved, so that situations like this would not occur again. “When software is submitted, we do try to filter out the bad eggs. When apps are submitted, they are scanned. We are looking at how they could be scanned better,” Heath said, cited by ZDNet UK. In order for an application to be accepted by Symbian devices, the developers need to submit it to the Foundation, where it goes through a checki!
ng process. Each software solution that passes the security tests is then digitally signed, so that users are assured that the application they are downloading is a rather safe one. The testing process has a few stages that applications must go through. The first one is an antivirus scanning,...
