HTTP:: Metroid Prime Multiplayer Might Happen
--------
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption seemed to put a lid on the series and no news of any further developments was heard. Retro Studios didn't have any official releases or content in their schedule and not even rumors surfaced about the series. But it looks like the game might see some more action after all. In a recent heart-to-heart with Kotaku gaming site, producer Kensuke Tanabe says he sees a glimmer of hope for the game and new ideas might regenerate the title. "As all I take part in is the Prime series, I am not capable of commenting on the whole Metroid series," the producer says. "But we will keep considering multiplayer for the Prime series. For instance, I think I can come up with some unique ideas using the Morph Ball, which is a specific skill of Samus." The franchise had another go at the multiplayer in the past and it didn't seem to be that bad. Even with the hardware-imposed boundaries of the DS, the platform on which Metroid Prime Hunters was released on, the gam!
e did pretty well. Even if Hunters was developed by Nintendo and not Retro Studios, the past experience might be enough to motivate the developers. And willpower is all it takes to start something. This, along with the encouragement of the series creator should be more than enough to spark the light of creation. Whether a new multiplayer exper...

--------
Not long ago, Alicia Silverstone was talking about how going vegan when she was young completely changed her life, allowing her now, at 32, to look better even than many women much younger. Woody Harrelson, dubbed by the media as the ultimate hippie, is also a vegetarian and has been so since he was in his 20s, although, in his case, the change in diet was for purely cosmetic reasons, PageSix writes. According to the source, the actor has recently admitted that, while he swears by vegetarianism, he did not turn to it because he believed in animals’ rights or thought he should be less cruel towards nature, as it was the case with other stars. On the contrary, the actor simply wanted to rid himself of the bad case of acne he had at the time, and listened to a piece of advice a stranger gave him one day. When he saw it worked, he continued with the diet. “Woody Harrelson didn’t become vegan just to protect animals â€" there was some vanity involved. The star tells Ma!
xim that he gave up dairy foods to help clear up his skin. ‘I was about 24 years old, and I had tons of acne,’ he told the magazine. ‘I met some random girl on a bus who told me to quit dairy and all those symptoms would go away three days later.’ Harrelson added, ‘By God, she was right.’&rdq...

A clear sign that the holiday-release season is in full swing, with AAA quality titles arriving each new week, is a quick look at the video-game sale chart in the United Kingdom, which now appears to be switching leaders each time a new edition comes out. This week, the newly released Need for Speed: Shift from Electronic Arts is the best sold game, with the more realistic installment in the series proving to be a hit with players. The racing-oriented video game has displaced Guitar Hero 5 from Activision and Red Octane from the top spot it just captured last week, when it was released in the United Kingdom. Racing seems to be popular in the country, as Colin McRae: DiRT 2 from Codemasters manages to slide down just one spot to number three. Batman: Arkham Asylum from Eidos is also down one position to the fourth, after also topping the chart, while Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo, a game that comes packed with the new Wii Motion Plus, which enhances motion tracking, is u!

A group of 28 internationally renowned scientists proposes a new method of ensuring that humanity continues to develop and thrive for generations to come. They argue that defining a “safe planetary operating space” can only be achieved through the concept of global biophysical boundaries. Combining established knowledge of the planet, the group says that its proposals are the first attempt ever at identifying and quantifying a set of nine planetary boundaries that would become the basis of all sustainable development initiatives of the future. In its set of ideas, which appears in the latest issue of the renowned scientific journal Nature, the team reports that these guidelines could provide humankind with the means necessary to overcome 21st-century problems such as overpopulation, food and water scarcity, global warming and climate change. Some of the most renowned scientists in the initiative include Nobel Laureate Paul Crutzen, the Director of the Potsdam Institute!

For starters, we should take a look at My Location, a new feature that should offer users the possibility to receive local results even without having to type in their location. “Once you see the blue My Location dot with your current location below the search box, simply search for a local query, for example 'italian restaurant', and the search results will contain local business results along with web results,” is how a post on Google Mobile Blog describes the feature. Being severely overweight or obese is naturally not a good thing, but recent studies have finally placed a number on the correlation between body weight and the incidence of cancer. According to the papers, no less than 124,000 of the new cancer cases that appear every year are caused by improper and unhealthy weight. The new modeling study, which was performed in Europe, focused on a body mass index (BMI) of 25kg/m2. Women in central European countries such as the Czech Republic, Latvia, Slovenia and Bulgaria were the most affected population segment, the study also found. “As more people stop smoking and fewer women take hormone replacement therapy, it is possible that obesity may become the biggest attributable cause of cancer in women within the next decade,” Dr. Andrew Renehan, a senior lecturer in cancer studies and surgery at the University of Manchester, in the United Kingdom, shared at the 15th congress of the European CanCer Organization, and the 34th congress!

Spacecraft are very prone to malfunctions caused by external influences. Things as small as bacteria can jeopardize an entire mission, especially if they form biofilms atop various gears, or inside astronauts' living quarters. In an attempt to ensure that this doesn't happen, experts at NASA again turned to nature for inspiration, and took after the beautiful lotus plant in creating a dust-busting, transparent coating, to apply on future space vehicles, ScienceDaily reports. The coatings are developed by a joint partnership between the Linthicum, Maryland-based Northrop Grumman Electronics Systems, the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, in Greenbelt, Maryland, and the Atlanta, Georgia-based nGimat Corporation. The transparent structure acts in a way similar to how the lotus plant sheds water, and experts believe that, once prototypes are completed, layers of coatings could potentially be used to keep microorganisms and dust away from vital spacecraft gears. At first glan!
ce, a lotus leaf appears to be very smooth. But, when placed under the microscope, the surface reveals its amazing structure. Countless tiny spikes form on each square millimeter of the leaf, and drastically minimize the area where dust and water can grab a foothold. “If you splash lotus leaves with water, it just beads up and rol...

Evolution in a biological context roughly translates into a species' ability to favor the passing on of genes that ensure its survival into the next generation. In order for this to happen, mutations must occur. Mutations generate diversity, but can also have adverse effects on a species, and lead to its extinction. In a groundbreaking, new study, experts discovered that, once a protein, for instance, evolved into a higher form than its original one, it could no longer devolve, or go back to its previous state. The experts behind the investigation say that there is no easy way of going back, LiveScience reports. As various species of humans evolved from the common ancestors we share with primates, it was mutations and adaptations that set our ancestors on a path to becoming the dominant species on the planet. If evolutionary regression had been possible, then at least some humans would have surely devolved back into forms similar to the common ancestor, once the environme!
ntal factors that drove their mutations in the first place disappeared. However, historical records and fossil discoveries show that this type of events never took place. “Evolutionary biologists have long been fascinated by whether evolution can go backwards. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) is the most active probe sent to the Red Planet to date. Up until now, it has sent back the most pieces of information on the planet of all missions, and continues to do so at a steady rate, in spite of occasional glitches and reboots. Recently, with the help of one of its advanced instruments, it imaged the layers of ice at the Martian North Pole, and successfully evidenced the fact that geological records were in tune with theoretical-model climate swings during the past few million years, experts at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, (JPL), in Pasadena, California, report. According to the measurements, the ice layers stack up neatly on top of each other, and have grown to be two kilometers (1.2 miles) in height. The patterns in which they are arranged offer insight into how they were formed, the JPL team says. Coupled with theoretical models of climate-change cycles on Mars, the new images can lead to a better understanding of how !
the climate on the planet looked like a few million years ago. The deposits cover an overall area that is roughly one third larger than Texas. “Contrast in electrical properties between layers is what provides the reflectivity we observe with the radar. Most of the computers connected to the Internet today still use standard copper cables for transmitting information, which is carried aboard electrons. The core of the World Wide Web is, however, made up of fiber optic cables, which rely on data being sent via photons. The latter particles are far more “qualified” for the task than electrons are, but, at this point, the technology is still fairly expensive, and cannot be implemented at a wider scale. Intel, the largest chip manufacturer in the world, has recently announced that it plans to develop a new type of cable, called Light Peak, which will combine the efficiency of fiber optics with the low price of a standard cable, Technology Review reports. The Vice President of Intel's mobility group, Dadi Perlmutter, announced this Wednesday at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), held in San Francisco, California, that plans were to introduce the new cable by 2010. According to the official, the new tool will be able to tr!

The amazing object went on display at the American Museum of Natural History, in New York City, yesterday, Wired reports. It took 70 workers more than four years to roam the streets and poles of Madagascar, and collect the sufficient number of spiders needed to complete this textile. Golden orb spiders were the only variety used in the effort, as they are the only species that can yield the golden silk. Once the spiders were trapped, a team of 12 workers got on the job of extracting about 80 feet of silk out of each and every one of them. All these fibers were later p!
ut together, and then woven into the golden cloth. “Spider silk is very elastic, and it has a tensile strength that is incredibly strong compared to steel or Kevlar. There’s scientific research going on all over the world right now trying to replicate the tensile properties of spider silk and apply it to all sort...

While Microsoft is planning to open one of its first retail stores inside the Mission Viejo development (California), Apple has closed down its own store on that location for renovation. Reports say the move appears to be a “preemptive strike,” although it may also be just a coincidence, going by other sources. AppleInsider has learned that, “Microsoft intends to open its first two brick-and-mortar stores this fall, with one of them to be located inside The Shops at Mission Viejo. That same site already houses an Apple Store,” while a reader confirms that, “The company has closed its existing location for renovations.” Providing pictures of the closed store, the reader tells AppleInsider that it’s been closed since Monday, Sept. 14. The location, now boarded off, tells visitors, “Coming soon. The all-new Apple Store,” according to the imagery. “Whether the renovations are a direct response to Microsoft's own upcoming store, or merely a coincidence is u!

They often say â€" movie critics in particular â€" that Hollywood turns to classic films whenever it lacks inspiration for a new project, and this happens quite often actually. This is why remakes, reboots and sequels are so popular, with many a major movie studio constantly looking for franchises to bring back to life and turn into successful businesses once more. Summit Entertainment has just dug up “Highlander,” which will be remade with the help of director Justin Li, SlashFilm says. Summit, the same movie studio behind the incredibly successful “Twilight” phenomenon, is looking for a new franchise to reboot and has set its sight on “Highlander.” According to a press statement that began to make the rounds recently, Summit has already tapped big names in the industry for the re-imagination of the classic film, which will start from the mythology of the original and hopefully adapt the story for new audiences â€" which is to say, reboot the original film. !
“Summit Entertainment announced today that it has tapped the filmmaking team behind this spring’s hit film ‘Fast & Furious â€" director Justin Lin and producer Neal H. Moritz â€" to direct and produce respectively the studio’s re-imagination of the cult film ‘Hi...

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that approximately 40,000 US citizens contract salmonella every year, primarily from unwashed food. The bacterium can do some serious damage inside the body, and outbreaks are not at all uncommon. Against it, many pharmaceutical companies have attempted to develop vaccines or other forms of treatment, to various degrees of success. Now, Austin, Texas-based Astrogenetix is applying for approval from the CDC for starting human trials with its new salmonella vaccine, obtained from research done in orbit. The International Space Station (ISS) has been touted as the most important research facility in the world today, mostly because it took more than $100 billion, and about 11 years, to build. Rather than housing weapon research, as one could expect from an orbit-based research facility, the station is home to a very large number of scientific experiments, which are all designed to further knowledge in specific f!

When new stars are born, not all material in their precursors gets ignited and consumed. The remains usually start spinning around it, and, over millions of years, new planets are formed. The debris-filled areas around the stars are known as a protoplanetary disk. Astronomers know how long it takes for planets to form from these structures, and therefore were amazed to see that a cloud of dust and gas around the young, new star LRLL 31 was being pushed around, Space reports. There are, in fact, two things that make the find amazing. For starters, discovering significant motions in a space structure via telescope measurements taken only five months apart is extremely rare. This usually means that the observed target is moving or otherwise evolving very fast. Secondly, a moving clump of material could only be generated by two things, experts say, either a new star forming near the first one, or a new exoplanet forming from that clump. If the latter turns out to be true, then!
these are the first, real-time measurements of how planets form from protoplanetary disks. “We don't know if planets have formed, or will form, but we are gaining a better understanding of the properties and dynamics of the fine dust that could either become, or indirectly shape, a planet. Until not long ago, experts believed that the Moon was not the most likely place in the solar system where one would find liquid water. In fact, measurements of lunar soil samples, brought back by Apollo-mission astronauts, have shown that, on average, only about 32 ounces of water could exist in theory within a ton of the material. In time, it became established knowledge that water could exist at the satellite's poles, in hidden craters, but that the rest of the surface was bone-dry. However, studies conducted with a number of different space probes seem to paint a different picture, Space reports. Discovering actual water on the Moon, such as, for instance, observing it directly inside a crater, would make human exploration more worthwhile, and also sustainable. Such reserves could power up future lunar bases, where astronauts could study the samples they collect on the spot, without having to send them to Earth. Still, it remains clear that, for the most part, the pla!

Just recently, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) probe discovered signatures of water or hydroxyl in deep, dark craters on the Moon's South Pole. The latest Windows Mobile 6.5 interim version that made it into the wild recently is Build 23053, which follows the recently leaked Build 23052, as well as the long list of its predecessors. We've already grown accustomed with seeing new builds of the Windows Mobile 6.5 (which are part of the 6.5.1 branch) emerging into the wild, and we should take a look at this one too. According to the news on the web, the new build features a series of stability improvements and some speed enhancements, yet it looks about the same as said Build 23052. Even so, when compared to other previous builds, the new iteration seems to sports various changes, at least this is what Redmond Pie shows by placing the new build side by side with the older Build 23047. The changes from one build to another include: - The magnified status (or notifications) bar gets new icons and it works from all places of the menu, unlike before when it was only accessible from the homescreen. - New dropdown arrow!

The first known genetic regulatory protein, the lactose repressor protein, was discovered as far back as 1966, but it was only recently that the tools of biochemistry became sophisticated enough to allow for it to be investigated thoroughly. Behind the research were experts at the Rice University (RU), who discovered that the shape of proteins, in general, and their structure determined their function. Furthermore, the proteins are highly flexible. The discoveries are detailed in this week's issue of the respected journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). “It's become increasingly clear that many proteins are highly flexible and able to form different types of structures when they interact with something else, often another protein or DNA. That's true for lactose repressor in binding to DNA, making it a good candidate to learn more about the process of DNA looping because it's a relatively simple and well-studied protein,” the RU Stewart Memorial !
Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Kathleen Matthews, who has also been the co-author of the new PNAS paper, explains. She started studying the lactose repressor protein almost four decades ago. “Our findings are important, but there is clearly more work to be done. One of the most important releases for the PlayStation 3 coming in the next months is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, a game that is developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation 3 home gaming consoles from Sony and that is set to be released on October 16. And the two companies are doing everything they can to drive up expectations related to the title, including talking about potential sequels to it even before it is out. In a video that was posted on the official PlayStation blog, Amy Hennig, who is the creative director at Naughty Dog, has answered a question by saying that, “No it doesn't conclude the story at all,” before adding that, “Our expectation with Uncharted is that it can be an ongoing franchise as long as people want more of it. All these stories are self-contained enough. To play the last one to play this one â€" obviously you can get a bit more out of it if you have.” Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is set to continue the adventures of everyman!
Nathan Drake, while upgrading virtually every aspect of the original game. The adventuring portion will be more complex, allowing characters to perform more acrobatic stunts as they navigate levels. The combat is now more adrenaline-packed, with enemies reacting quicker and going more for flanking moves. The graph...

It has often been said that women are up to no good when they get behind the wheel for reasons ranging from their inability to focus on one thing alone (driving, that is) to not being as endowed as men when it comes to spatial orientation. A recent study comes to show that women also suffer from what is known as “parking stress,” which makes them twice more likely to ask someone else to park their car, the Telegraph informs. The survey included 4,200 drivers, 1,428 men and 2,772 women, and was conducted by insurer Elephant in the UK. The results indicate that, when it comes to parking, women find themselves at a loss, with three quarters of them saying they are discouraged about having to back into a space even when they have enough room to maneuver. About 22 percent of female respondents also admit to giving up without even trying, regardless of whether they have enough room or not. Parallel parking is even more tricky for women, most of them coming clean about the!
ir aversion towards it. When they know someone is watching, the so-called “parking stress” kicks in and women are twice more likely to get out of the car and go ask a stranger to park their vehicle for them. Men, on the other hand, are at the opposite pole, with just nine percent admitting to not being able to pa...

It stands to reason that, until robots get human-like appearances, they will never be fully accepted socially. Experts are therefore currently working on ways of making this a reality, but defining what a human trait is proves to be extremely difficult. The best example for this is replicating the human skin. Advancements made recently in studying the organ, such as, for instance, learning how to produce it from stem cells, do not imply a deeper understanding of what makes it human. Measuring its properties and determining which of these properties is key to its abilities is seemingly impossible. National University of Singapore expert John-John Cabibihana led a team of colleagues in trying to establish just that. They argue that future robots would need to have human-like skin in order to be accepted socially. For example, hand shakes must not feel awkward for people, while the robots' hands must have a natural appearance as much as possible. In addition to use in robots,!
new skin could be used in artificial, prosthetic devices as well. At this point, visually speaking, prostheses near the aspect of a human arm, but they barely feel like one. Health experts constantly warn us of the obesity pandemic that is sweeping over the world, but, for some reason or another, we as individuals fail to see ourselves as part of the problem, choosing instead to stand outside of it, looking in. A recent study, for instance, shows that most of those who fall in the obese category are not even aware that their weight is dangerous for their health, but they do see it in others around them, the BBC informs. The explanation for this is to be found in the fact that, as large becomes the norm, most of the people who have issues with their weight begin to alter their perception on what is healthy and what is not in terms of weight. Perception on sizes is changing, which means that a person who is overweight will think they are the right size, if compared with someone who is obese. Ironically enough, the survey has also found that people’s perception on healthy eating has also changed drastically in recent years. “The poll, carr!

Despite our everyday work, everyone needs a break, even computers. Saving energy is also important. I know that, when you have a deadline, and you’re only halfway done, the energy-saving issue is the least to worry about. But there are applications that can help save energy and start freshly at the same time. What I mean by that is that you can save energy by creating a power-management schedule and also run a certain tool at shutdown or startup. Not to mention that you can configure your system to lock during a break. Why do you need a schedule for system shutdown and startup? A small example: all your work can be saved at the end of the day if, before shutdown, you run a backup solution or upload data to an FTP location. The same solution, but vice-versa, can be applied at startup. Yes, you would say, but this is geared towards power-users that deal with complicated projects every day and, if one mistake occurs, all data is lost, so why would a light user like me need !
such a solution? Simple, to run a cleanup tool at the end of the day (empty recycle bin, delete temp files, remove cookie or clear cache). The basic premises that lie behind power-management solutions is to save energy (your money), create a shutdown, restart or lock schedule or be able to take these actions in case of CPU inactivity.
