Certain compounds of silicon, aluminum and oxygen, known as zeolites, are essential to such products as kitty litter, detergents and gasoline, and, as such, important for the modern-day lifestyle we are accustomed to. There are, at this point, about 200 known types of the stuff, but experts have hypothesized for a long time that many other forms of the chemical may exist. Now, some two decades after the idea was first thought of, a team of experts at the Rice University has managed to devise a computational model that shows the wide variety of zeolites that could be out there today. The RU John W. Cox Professor in Biochemical and Genetic Engineering, Michael Deem, has been in charge of the new investigation. The scientist is also a professor of physics and astronomy. In a paper posted in the latest online issue of the American Chemical Society's Journal of Physical Chemistry C, and entitled â€œComputational Discovery of New Zeolite-Like Materials,â€ the expert reveals th!

Twitter Lists were rolled out over the weekend to all users and they've proven a huge success so far. Maybe it's the fact that Twitter implements important features like this one very, very slowly, or maybe it's just the fact that the feature is proving very useful to most users. It's probably a combination of the two, but, in any case, there are about 6.5 million lists created so far and it's already showing a different picture on just who's influential on the microblogging platform and who isn't. Twitter doesn't provide any useful numbers related to the Lists feature, but a specific Google search, as the Next Web blog reports, shows that the number of Lists URLs is getting close to the 6.5-million mark. These, of course, are just the public Lists but, seeing how Twitter makes sure that every page on the site has a very SEO-friendly URL, which can't really be said about the rest of the site, the number is accurate enough. Most users don't like the practice, but ISPs say they are forced to do this because of network congestion. Now, uTorrent, the most popular BitTorrent client built by BitTorrent Inc., wants to meet ISPs halfway with the latest 2.0 version, still in beta, by enabling a form of throttling at the application level. The latest uTorrent comes with support for a new implementation of the BitTorrent protocol, created by the company behind uTorrent, called uTP, which was designed to lower bandwidth consumption, even if it means slowing down its own traffic. With the new protocol, the client will be able to detect chokes in the network and will bring down its own consumption, hopefully alleviating the problem. This should, in theory, if implemented on a large-enough scale, create huge savings for the ISPs. It is great for the network and po!
