Several reports are confirming AT&T is gearing up to provide MMS support for iPhone owners in September. The much anticipated feature was actually promised for Summer 2009, but at least the carrier is delivering. Apple, for its part, introduced MMS support across its iPhone 3G and 3GS devices, but still has to wait for AT&T to give the green light to the service on the iPhone. Earlier this year, in March to be precise, Apple announced iPhone OS 3.0, an update to its mobile operating system used both by the iPhone, and the iPod touch. Although contemporary smartphones already shared abilities like cut, copy & paste, MMS, tethering etc., Apple only introduced these abilities with a late revision of its iPhone OS, while some of these highly anticipated features still cannot be put to use. MMS is one of those features. First generation iPhone owners can’t, and will (probably) never send or receive an MMS via legal means provided by a mobile services operator, as!
MMS is not supported on this particular iPhone model. Apple explicitly stated that only the 3G version of the device (and the 3GS implicitly) would support multimedia messaging.
