According to a recent report from DisplaySearch, the worldwide OLED market has increased significantly during the second quarter of the ongoing year, registering $192 million in revenue during the time frame. Compared to the previous quarter, the revenues are 32 percent higher, the firm says, adding that the increase is of 22 percent when compared to the same time frame a year ago. Things are expected to move to the better in the future as well, the research firm states. Thus, the total OLED display market is expected to reach $6.2 billion by 2016, up from the $600 million it saw in 2008, and should register a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 33 percent. When it comes to the mobile phone displays, the market segment is expected to register revenues of around $3 billion in 2016, and should be the leading application for OLED.
